Our Human Race

I want to live where it is diverse,

seeing my features in the crowd.

I want to live where it is beauty,

in every face and smile.

I want to live in the moment,

when nobody will care,

if your skin is a warm brown or chillingly fair.

I want to live in a world,

that understands everyones pain.

In a world where one’s struggle is all the same.

I want to live in a world,

where one’s race doesn’t matter.

In a world,

where serenity is all that we are chasing after.

This world now,

may be cruel and callous.

Yet, change is near

and that is all I am running after.

I look at the world

BY LANGSTON HUGHES

I look at the world
From awakening eyes in a black face—
And this is what I see:
This fenced-off narrow space
Assigned to me.

I look then at the silly walls
Through dark eyes in a dark face—
And this is what I know:
That all these walls oppression builds
Will have to go!

I look at my own body
With eyes no longer blind—
And I see that my own hands can make
The world that’s in my mind.
Then let us hurry, comrades,
The road to find.

BI-RACIAL
A kiss of death to my relationships with men
With men whose families have to ask
‘Why can’t you just find a nice ‘white’ girl? .

BI-RACIAL
I do not apologize.
I am a person,
not a colour,
not a race,
not a shoe-size.

BI-RACIAL
And I won’t let you define me.
I am bi-racial,
I have bi-racial hair and bi-racial blood
I have an I.Q. that would make most MENSA-students cry
I have a heart that bleeds and dies every time you leave
I’ve got enough love to provide for all that are willing to accept me
I’ve got the patience to sit up on the phone at 3 a.m. talking to the men I’m not good enough for, when their families are asleep, and they need a friend
I AM BI-RACIAL, with enough common sense to make amends

BI-RACIAL
And I won’t stand for your defense
I’m not saying that I’ve got a heart of gold
Nor do I have morals of steel.

But I am BI-RACIAL,
I know what it’s like to feel like your life can be computed down to something that isn’t real
I’m bi-racial and I’m not here to make a big deal,
but I am bi-racial.

It wasn’t my decision,
But I could never choose,
My skin tone is a part of me,
I’ve got culture like you couldn’t believe,
I can compare Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.
Can fix a computer in no time at all.

I am BI-RACIAL
I DON’T NEED FORGIVENESS
I WON’T APOLOGIZE
I AM BI-RACIAL.
I live, I lust, I love.
I’m sorry that you’re missing out, ’cause you don’t think I’m good enough
